    Pros +

    • Provided an amazing traditional ryokan experience. It was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.
    • I had such an amazing Christmas here at Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki St. The food was delicious at the restaurant located at the hotel, as well as the room service! I truly enjoyed my time here while I was visiting Kyoto solo for the first time! I felt so relaxed and happy with my experience, and will be recommending this hotel for anyone looking to stay in Kyoto! It was a bit of a walk to major tourist spots but I enjoyed every minute of that walk as the beauty of Kyoto can be properly enjoyed and seen by walking around the city! ???
    • The dinner the first night was OUTSTANDING (Wagyu meal). The Experience overall was outstanding. The staff was courteous and very helpful.

    Cons -

    • The second night's dinner was not nearly as good. Drink purchase requirement was tacky, should have been included. Only 1 night's dinner should be required for multi-night stays.
    • The townhouse is two stories, so if you’re travelling with heavy luggage or have mobility issues, going upstairs to the sleeping area might be slightly inconvenient. However, there’s plenty of room downstairs in the small lounge area to store luggage.
    • Check in was a little cumbersome. It felt like there was some disorganization because we arrived early. Our name was checked three times and then I was asked so it other names. So a little odd?

Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki St. is a stunning stay that blends traditional Kyoto charm with modern comfort. The serene machiya-style design and lantern-lit walkways create a beautiful, calming vibe (great photo opportunities). Our room was cozy yet felt spacious, with thoughtful touches like sleepwear and a private bath. Everything was spotless and felt luxurious, from the ambience to the quality bedding. Breakfast is offered in either Japanese or Western style (I recommend the Japanese set) and was incredibly fresh and delicious. There’s also a relaxing upstairs lounge near reception with snacks and light refreshments— perfect for chilling before heading out or unwinding before heading upstairs to bed. The staff were warm, attentive, and spoke excellent English. The location is convenient yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful. Although the stay is on the pricier side, the experience and service definitely justifies it. A perfect mix of tradition and quiet luxury — highly recommend.

The property is like taking a step into another beautiful dimension. Aesthetically, it’s stunning. The staff is attentive and charming. And the amenities are lovely.

Check in was a little cumbersome. It felt like there was some disorganization because we arrived early. Our name was checked three times and then I was asked so it other names. So a little odd?

The two story rooms felt spacious and luxurious, with the best part of course being the attached private onsen. Locations is perfectly central too, while being just a bit outside of the tourist craziness to provide a little peace and calm.

Nothing! From the rooms to the staff to the location, everything was perfect!

The rooms were zen & restful, especially the beautiful private outdoor onsen.

My daughter was not allowed to visit at all. She's an exchange student staying an hour away. Had I known this, I would have chosen another place.

Elegant, clean, and beautiful. The staff is professional and friendly.

Bath was nice, seemed clean. Decent area to stay.

A lot of the extra amenities were constantly out of stock and had to be asked for. Everything was seemed pricey compared to what you actually received.

We loved how courteous the staff was and the room was so beautifully maintained. Everything we could have wanted was presented to us with little effort and we would love to do a special thank you to staff member Kai. He was very attentive and helpful.

There was a little hair left in the bath probably from the last guest. We mentioned it to the staff and the fixed it promptly.

It was cute and safe. Loved all the amenities! And the staff was super kind

The bathroom sink drain kept getting stuck but that was it. Wish the sitting area had more comfortable settings.

Loved our stay, the place looked like the photos and the staff were all wonderful. Food was also wonderful.

Stuff is very kind and supportive. Breakfast was really good. Japanese.

We were so excited to come and stay in this property. However we were mistaken about facility’s location as well as the size of the rooms itself.

Stunning redesign of a machiya. Innovative menu ( have the Oita Wagyu set) and the sweetest staff in Kyoto. Turn up the heat in the outdoor bath and let your muscles and mind relax.

While the design is creative and innovative, the use of multiple levels and steps in the unit, is challenging for anyone with balance or mobility issues. The staff were very receptive to this feedback.

The room was beautiful. Massage services were great. The welcome gift was great.

Didn’t know it was two floors. The lighting was really bad. Pot lights made certain areas really bright (blinding you) and then it’s super dark. The beds were not a queen size but rather two twins. The onsen was really dark. Cleansiness wasn’t at par. Found spider webs everywhere! Wasn’t much variety with breakfast unfortunately.

The feel of stepping into a different era hits immediately as you walk in. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. The treatment makes the stay better than anyone could expect. The food surpassed our expectations. The room was beautiful and felt very private and quiet.

The facilities and hospitality are excellent. The Ochazuke breakfast was delightful and the restaurant itself is beautifully fitted out. We were in a private dining space since we were 5 people and it was absolutely divine looking. The staff were extremely helpful but wonderfully discreet in appearing only as required. The food was exquisite and almost too beautiful looking to eat. It was a visual delight for the senses. The bedrooms are well fitted out and very comfortable. The pyjamas are soft and beautiful and having one's own hot tub was luxurious and relaxing. The lounge is excellent with free flowing wine and sake for a few hours each evening. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. We enjoyed the tea blending session in the lounge in the evening. We didn't have time to book in for a kimono tying class but we would love to do it when we return next time. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Nazuna Tsubaki Street. we will definitely be back for a longer stay.

The lack of space to open out suitcases in the rooms, especially if 3 people are in one accommodation. It would have been nice to have some more savoury snacks in the lounge for those of us who don't like sugar. It is a small lounge so it can get overcrowded in the evening. Clearing up used glasses and plates more frequently would have been good too.

    Cool rooms and unique designs

Location was not great to get in and around Kyoto.Skip hotel breakfastService was not as good as other accommodations in Japan

    9SimonPosted on: 4-19-2025

The setting for Breakfast was superb as was the food and service. The Lounge facility for the evenings is also excellent though a few more savoury snacks would have been welcome. The staff are all extremely helpful and polite. The hot tub in each room is an amazing inclusion as are the soft pyjamas. The aesthetic of the entire room is superb. Thanks Nazuna Tsuki Street for a wonderful stay.

The water in the hot tub did not maintain its temperature.

Hotel is a lovely hidden old Kyoto street with cute small houses. A great place to chill in private onsen. Comfortable beds, luxury bathroom. Wagyu dinner menu is mind blowing. Worth every penny.
